200px-lpulogoKissito Healthcare is a proud sponsor of two Ugandan students named Stephen Khisha and Herbert Mayemba to the Philippines for the years 2009-2013. Khisha and Mayemba will be sponsored to complete four year baccalaureate degrees in nursing at the Lyceum-St. Cabrini College of Allied Medicine in the Philippines. Guided by the belief that “it exists for the betterment of human life,” Kissito Healthcare is committed to help the people of Africa to lead healthy and productive lives. This groundbreaking initiative by Kissito Healthcare aims to help rural Ethiopian and Ugandan people gain access to basic health care services leading to healthier lives.

Besides the regular course curricula, sponsored students will be trained with specialized training skills and will learn to adapt cross cultural working conditions, will be familiar on subjects such as Leadership, Management & Organizational structure, Patient Care, Quality Assurance and Support services during their graduate study program at St. Cabrini.  As part of the training curricula, the students will also complete clinical rotation training at the St. Cabrini Medical Center so that they are not only capable of providing outstanding care while in the profession but also treat patients with compassion and respect. Upon successful completion of their graduate studies program, these students will return to Africa and work within the local communities providing basic health care services.

“It is crucial to bring back people with higher degrees to serve their own communities,” says Tom Clarke, President & CEO of the organization. He strongly feels that human capital is a key for development and Kissito Healthcare is fortunate to be fulfilling its commitment toward this. He also hopes that with the knowledge and skills acquired during the graduate studies program, these two Ugandan students will contribute more effectively to their society in Africa.

This program was established in 2008 with funding from Kissito Healthcare and as a partnership program with the St. Cabrini Medical Center and its affiliated organization Lyceum-St. Cabrini College of Allied Medicine in the Philippines. It aims to scale up and speed up capacity development in the field of health care services delivery in coming years beyond training of individuals by focusing on building up the in-country learning capabilities.
