St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center, Philippines

The spiraling costs of healthcare, a large number of uninsured and underinsured patients, outlandishly expensive prescription drugs and last but not the least a chronic shortage in the nursing workforce in the United States have put the US hospitals in a severe crisis. There are now over 135,000 vacant positions for registered nurses nationwide. Because of the severe shortage of nurses, emergency rooms are shutting down, surgeries are delayed and, most disturbing of all, patients are often times not receiving the critical care they desperately need. To make matters worse, the shortage of nurses in the country has lead to increased patient death rates, patient safety concerns and has affected hospitals’ efficiency in providing quality care. Globally, the nursing shortage is even more complex because of the lack of skilled nurses who are needed to care for individual patients and the population as a whole.
Nursing shortage in the United States has reached a level where hiring foreign nurses is not just an option but has become an economic necessity. Keeping in view the shortage in the nursing profession and in order to meet the rapidly-growing need for nurses in this country, Kissito Post Acute has signed an agreement and has established a long-term partnership with the St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center and its affiliated organization Lyceum-St. Cabrini College of Allied Medicine in the Philippines. Both Kissito Post Acute and St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center are committed to train and educate skilled nurses and bring them to the United States where there is a dire need of skilled nurses. To have the highest order of services, efficiency and quality care, the nurses will be trained to adapt to cross cultural working conditions, will be familiar on subjects such as clinical information systems, evidence-based clinical practices, Leadership, Management & Organizational structure, patient flow management, patient care , quality assurance and support services. As part of the training program, the nurses will also have to complete a clinical rotation training at any of the Kissito facilities in the United States, or any other country other than the St. Cabrini Medical Center so that they are not only being capable of providing outstanding care while in the profession but also treat patients with compassion and respect.
As part of the agreement, Kissito Post Acute is currently sponsoring 27 nurses and physical therapists from the Philippines, who will be participating in an intensive 6-12 months Post-Graduate Program of training at St. Cabrini Medical Center before they immigrate to the United States.
